Your Next Adventure Is Waiting for You

When Marrakesh is baking 60km to the northeast, and tourists and day-trippers are swamping Ourika, Marrakshis sneak off to mellow Ouirgane for High Atlas breezes, peaceful hikes through unspoilt villages and romantic country retreats. For those crossing the Tizi n'Test to or from Taroudannt, Ouirgane makes an excellent stopover en route to Marrakesh - Lonely Planet

Introducing our newest destination, Ouirgane Valley, Morocco

There's something magical about setting off into the mountainous part of North Africa and strolling up to your private Boutique Hotel for a few days. That's why we can't stop daydreaming about Domaine Malika, our ultimate bucket-list destination in the outskirts of Marrakesh.

Where on the map?

Nestled in the tranquil foothills of the High Atlas Mountains in the heart of the Toubkal National Park lays the pretty Berber village of Ouirgane (pronounced Weer-gan) about forty minutes drive from Marrakech, it has a gentle climate and moderate in summer.

Wonderful views of the Toubkal range, a wide variety of bird life and a fresh and invigorating altitude of 1,000 metres await the traveller who makes it here.

Our home

This modernist Marrakech guesthouse rocks a fun Seventies vibe combined with sleek modern finishes in concrete, terrazzo and wrought iron. The rust-coloured villa mimics the local pisé architecture and crouches low among the lemon and olive trees.

To the front a jade-green pool with geometric tiling stretches beneath a weeping willow stopping just short of the breakfast terrace where large French-doors open onto a bright living room furnished with vintage pieces, potted palms and a funky brick-tiled fireplace. Staircases jigsaw up to bedrooms, balconies and flowering roof terraces, all of which offer vistas of valley, sky and mountains.

Of the seven rooms, all the suites have private balconies, brick fireplaces and large picture windows offering lovely views of the arid valley. All are furnished in the same sleek style without the overdone intricacies that are usually associated with Moroccan décor.

Domaine Malika is the starting point for many hiking trails and tracks offering the opportunity to discover authentic Morocco, crossing the Berber villages and going to meet the locals whose hospitality is well-known.

We will offer several hiking itineraries from the Domaine Malika with a time of 3 hours (half day) or 6 hours (day). The routes are selected according to the group profile (experienced hikers, beginners, seniors, children ...)

All our hikes will be accompanied by a guide.

During our trip to Morocco, we will offer a cooking session discovering the bounty of Moroccan gastronomy. The classes cater anyone who wants to discover the pleasures of the Moroccan table, and learn about one of the finest cuisines in the world.

The workshops led by Fouzia are held on the hotel grounds with equipment that can be found in the simplest kitchen.

A half-day workshop will teach participants to prepare a choice of either a starter and main course, or a starter and dessert.

At the end of each workshop, participants relax around the table, tasting the dishes they have prepared and enjoying the unique ambiance of the workshop.

We offer all guests a complimentary massage on the arrival. The hotel has a beautiful Spa with traditional Hamman, including a steam room, offering a range of services to indulge after a day of Training and Hiking.

One of the highlights of our Moroccan experience will be a day Guided Trip to Marrakesh and The Medina ( .. after our morning Yoga and workout, of course .. ).

The Medina is the old walled city of Marrakech and if you go to Marrakech you go to the Medina. The Medina is mostly a maze of small passages where cars cannot go and the only way to get around is to walk. At first it seems very alien to a westerner and perhaps just a bit scary - but there really is no need to worry as it is generally safe and most people are very friendly.

At the end of out trip we will stop by the Marrakesh Art Henna Cafe for some good Moroccan food and Henna artwork!

We are planning a packed few days of Yoga, Fitness, Hikes and Guided Trips so that you can enjoy this experience to the maximum.

Interview with Kate Lister

After moving to London three years ago from Liverpool, we were lucky enough to spend a week in Mykonos with this lovely gal. We took Kate on the side asked her to share us a bit more about herself and her life as a Yogi.

When did you start practicing yoga and why?

I started when I was about 14 years old. I loved the feeling of moving her body, exploring movement and was interested in the spiritual aspect of yoga. It really helps to chill me out.

Tell me about your practice style and how you chose your yoga method?

For my personal practice, I like ashtanga, vinyasa, rocket, yin and restorative styles, really all types of yoga, as long as I am practicing mindful, meditative movement.

What’s your favourite pose and why?

I love the bound half moon as it opens up the whole of the front of the body and requires focus to balance.

What is the most rewarding part of being a yoga teacher?

I get to meet loads of different, interesting people, and to connect and share experiences with these people.

Best advice for beginners?

Start where you are, and be there. Try out lots of different styles as there are lots of different types and teachers - you may not find your preferred style at first and this may change over time.

Your favourite quote?

‘There is more wisdom in your body, than in your deepest philosophy’.

Where is your favourite place to practice yoga?

Outdoors in the sunshine - Mykonos is perfect!
